What is it and how does it work?

Light and lasers

A light or laser is used to heat and close blood vessels.

Who is this for?

Mild to severe facial redness and moderate to severe blood vessel lines. Your health care professional can indicate which light or laser therapy may be most effective for you.

Who is this not for?

People with conditions of sensitivity to light or taking medications that may increase this sensitivity. Medical devices in your body or pregnant/nursing individuals may not be ideal candidates. Check with your health care professional to make sure this treatment is right for you.

How well does it work?

While these treatments are widely used, current studies are small and evidence is limited. (Low to moderate certainty evidence)

What are the possible side effects?

Serious: None

Other: Discomfort, itching, burning, swelling, blistering, scabbing, bruising, burning, crusting, color or texture changes, fragile skin, herpes simplex activation, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation and scarring.

Pregnancy: Use with caution in pregnancy due to possible pain and stress to mother during treatment.

Will it inconvenience me?

Require visits to a trained professional, time consuming, may require lifestyle changes post treatment, potential for temporary side effects.
