What is it and how does it work?

Electrosurgery

A needle is inserted into the blood vessel and electrical current is passed through it. This causes the blood vessel to seal.

Light and lasers

A laser is used to heat and destroy blood vessel lines.

Moderate and severe blood vessel lines. Your health care professional can indicate whether IPL, Nd:YAG or PDL will be the most effective treatment for you.

Who is this not for?

Electrosurgery

There are no absolute contraindications, but there is controversy on whether this treatment should be used with caution in those with medical devices in their body, such as cardiac pacemakers.

Light and lasers

People with certain cancers, infections, diseases causing sensitivity to light, immune system diseases, hormone diseases, bleeding disorders, certain medications, implanted medical devices or pregnant/nursing individuals may not be ideal candidates. Check with your health care professional to make sure this treatment is right for you.

What are the possible side effects?

Burns, bleeding, scarring with skin lightening.

Pregnancy: Facial electrosurgery could be safely used during pregnancy, but may not be recommended due to possible pain and stress to mother during treatment.

Other: Discomfort, itching, burning, swelling, blistering, scabbing, bruising, burning, fragile skin, and scarring.

Pregnancy: Use with caution in pregnancy due to possible pain and stress to mother during treatment.
